A Social Media Sabbatical

This morning Gwen Bell announced that she is taking July off.  A digital sabbatical where she wont be
  • blogging
  • reading blogs
  • twittering
  • updating facebook
  • checking email often
Gwen writes about how, in our culture, taking time away for ourselves isn't super encouraged.  I want to take this month to refocus.  To re-prioritize.  To be present in every moment I am in, and not frantically refreshing my twitter feed.

My life feels like it's on the brink of something big.  And when big things happen, I promise to share them... but right now... I am unplugging.  Taking the apps off my phone and instead:

I will:
  • Journal by hand.
  • Read books.
  • Spend time without my phone.
  • Have conversation with people in real life.
  • Drink coffee while walking the streets.
  • Draw.
  • Cuddle.

I will be back in August.

If you would like some email love:  HabbalaBlogs@gmail.com is where I am.  I will respond to emails eventually.  :)

While taking a break... I will be replaying this song over and over and over and over again..

In your ocean I'm ankle deep
I feel the waves crashing on my feet
It's like I know where I need to be
I can't figure out
No, I can't figure out
Just how much air I will need to breathe
When your wave crashes over me
There's only one way to figure out
Will you let me drown
Will you let me drown

Hey now, this is my desire
Consume me like a fire
Cause I just want
Something beautiful to touch me
I know that I'm in reach
I am down on my knees
And waiting for
Something beautiful

And the water is rising quick
And for years I was scared of it
We can't be sure when it will subside
So I won't leave your side
No I can't leave your side

Hey now, this is my desire
Consume me like a fire
Cause I just want
Something beautiful to touch me
I know that I'm in reach
I am down on my knees
And waiting for
Something beautiful

  1. Sounds like a great idea. I unplug a lot on weekends and evenings. A month of doing it would be a challenge but rewarding. I need to consider it one of these days. Enjoy!
